Thank You
FROM EMILY BERNARD
I want to thank
you for your donations of aluminum can pull-tabs.
My name is Emily Bernard, I am 17 years old. I am the granddaughter
of Nate and Serafina Reza. Six years ago in 2001, my family had to
go to Philadelphia , PA so that I could have a very complicated surgery.
Far from home my parents needed a place that was inexpensive while
I was in the hospital for close to three weeks. The Ronald McDonald
House was just the place. The Ronald McDonald House is an inexpensive
place where parents of children who are in the hospital for an extended
period of time can stay. The Houses provide rooms, a kitchen to cook
meals and shuttles back and forth to the hospitals in the area. Each
night a different group or organization comes in and cooks for the
families staying in the house. We have collected over 100 pounds of
pull-tabs! The donations you have made have helped to provide these
very nice facilities for families. It is truly amazing what these donations
can do.
Thank you and God Bless.

“Do not forget to do good and to share with
others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”
Hebrews 13:16, NIV
“Just A Mom?”
A woman renewing her driver’s license at the DMV
was asked by the clerk to state her occupation. The woman hesitated,
uncertain how to classify herself. “What I mean is” explained
the clerk, “do you have a job or are you just a…?”
“Of course I have a job! I’m a Mom.”
“We don’t list ‘Mom’ as an occupation. ‘Housewife’ covers
it.” Said the clerk emphatically.
I’d forgotten all about her story until the day
I found myself in the same situation, this time at our own Medicare
office. The clerk was obviously a career woman, poised, efficient and
possessed a high sounding title like, “Official Interrogator" or “Town
Registrar.”
“What is your occupation?” She asked.
What made me say it? I don’t know The words simply
popped out. “I’m a Research Associate in the Field of Child
Development and Human Relations.”
The clerk paused, ballpoint pen frozen in midair and
looked up as though she had not heard right. I repeated the title slowly
emphasizing the most significant words. Then I stared with wonder as
my pronouncement was written, in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire.
“Might I ask,” said the clerk with new interest, “just
what do you do in your field?”
Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice, I
heard myself reply, “I have a continuing program of research (what
mother doesn’t). In the laboratory and in the filed, (normally,
I would have said indoors and out). I’m working for my Masters, (first
the Lord and then the whole family) and already have four credits (all
daughters). Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in
the humanities, and I often work 14 hours a day (24 is more like
it).
There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk’s
voice as she completed the form, stood up, and personally ushered me
out the door.
As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up by my glamorous
new career, I was greeted by my lab assistants-ages 13, 7 and 3. Upstairs
I could hear our new experimental model (a six month old baby) in the
child development program, testing out new vocal patterns. I felt I
had scored a beat on bureaucracy! I had gone on the official records
as someone more distinguished and indispensable to mankind than “Just
another Mom.”
Motherhood! What a glorious career! Especially when
there’s a title on the door.
Does this make grandmothers “Senior Research Associates
in the Field of Child Development and Human Relations, and Great Grandmothers
Executive Senior Associates? I think so! I also think it makes Aunts,
Associate Research Assistants.”

YOU’VE GOT TO JOIN US ON
OUR OUTINGS!!!
On Sunday, April 13, 2008 -11 women from Panorama ventured to Valley
Beth Israel for a Women’s Seder. We were hosted by a lovely group
of ladies and participated in a Seder led by a female Rabbinical student.
We also had a delicious meal that had been prepared by our friends at
Valley Beth. We learned a lot and enjoyed the afternoon. We want to thank
Mona Trachtenberg for the invitation to attend this event. Just another
example of our different denominations coming together in fellowship.
Jeopardy
15 people attended the Jeopardy taping on April 22 nd, 2208 and had
a great time. Lee Valentine slipped us cookies and candy during the breaks
to keep us from fainting. We thoroughly enjoyed the taping. We were able
to have a tram ride to and from the studio for all those who needed the
ride. We then went on to the Robin Hood Restaurant on Burbank Blvd. in
Sherman Oaks and had a wonderful luncheon. Thanks so much to our favorite
television host, for this opportunity.
